Oura Ring Consumer Litigation

Wolf Popper LLP represents consumers in a class action lawsuit alleging that Oura Inc. and Oura Health OY deceptively marketed and sold the Oura Ring 5, Oura Ring 4, and Oura Ring 4 Ceramic by representing that these products can accurately measure and track users' sleep stages with a level of accuracy comparable to clinical sleep laboratories. According to the complaint, consumers paid substantial premiums for the products based on these representations, which allegedly overstated the rings' capabilities.
 
As alleged, Oura repeatedly promoted its rings as capable of accurately identifying REM sleep, deep sleep, light sleep, and wakefulness, and advertised sleep-stage analysis as one of the products' core features. Oura's marketing materials allegedly touted "95% Sleep Staging Accuracy Compared to clinical sleep lab," described the products as providing "in-depth analysis" of sleep stages, and claimed industry-leading accuracy through its sensor technology and proprietary algorithms.
 
The complaint alleges that, despite these representations, the Oura Rings do not contain the neurological sensors required to directly measure the brain activity, eye movements, and muscle activity used by polysomnography, the widely recognized clinical standard for determining sleep stages. Instead, the products allegedly rely on indirect physiological signals such as heart rate, movement, temperature, and blood-oxygen measurements to generate algorithmic estimates of sleep stages.
 
According to the lawsuit, multiple independent peer-reviewed studies have found substantially lower sleep-stage accuracy than Oura's marketing materials suggest. The complaint further alleges that consumers reasonably relied on Oura's representations because sleep-stage information cannot be independently verified by ordinary purchasers and because Oura extensively marketed the products through its website, social media channels, retail partners, influencers, and celebrity endorsements.
 
The action seeks relief on behalf of consumers nationwide who purchased the Oura Ring 5, Oura Ring 4, or Oura Ring 4 Ceramic. The lawsuit alleges violations of the California Consumers Legal Remedies Act, California's Unfair Competition Law, New York General Business Law § 349, and related common-law principles.
 
The case is 3:26-cv-10801 and is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
