If you purchased a gift card from GCX, paid a Platform Fee, and live in California, you may have a legal claim.
Wolf Popper LLP is investigating whether GCX’s “platform fee” could be considered a deceptive fee and break certain consumer protection laws. GCX describes the “platform fee” as “a small fee to help support [GCX’s] efforts to maintain a trusted platform and bring you the best available discounts on gift cards.”
These platform fees may not be disclosed to consumers up front, with GCX listing a lower price upfront and then a higher price with the platform fee added once the gift card is added to the customer’s online shopping cart.
