Egg Price-Fixing Antitrust Litigation
Type: Current Cases
Case Number: Case No. 1:26-md-3175-jdp
Product(s): Conventional Shell Eggs
According to the complaints, the companies shared pricing and market information and manipulated widely used egg pricing indexes. Plaintiffs allege that these practices helped drive egg prices higher than they would have been under normal market conditions, causing consumers to pay more for eggs.
The defendants include several of the country's largest egg producers, including Cal-Maine Foods, Inc., Rose Acre Farms, Inc., Versova Holdings, LLC, Hillandale Farms entities, and Daybreak Foods, Inc.
The litigation involves conventional shell eggs, sometimes called "table eggs." These are the eggs commonly sold in cartons at grocery stores, supermarkets, warehouse clubs, and convenience stores. The case does not involve cage-free, pasture-raised, or organic eggs. It also does not involve liquid or dried egg products often used in restaurants and food service.
The lawsuits have been combined in a federal proceeding known as In re Shell Eggs Antitrust Litigation, Case No. 1:26-md-3175-JDP, pending in the United States District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin.
