BMW "Park Outside" Recall Investigation
Type: Investigations
If you own a 2019–2022 BMW vehicle or a 2020–2022 Toyota Supra and were affected by BMW’s recent “park outside” safety recall, you may have a legal claim.
BMW of North America has issued a new “park outside” safety recall affecting nearly 200,000 vehicles after identifying a condition that may pose a fire risk while the vehicle is running or parked. The recall advises owners of certain BMW models to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings because corrosion can occur within the engine starter relay. This corrosion may cause the relay to overheat and short-circuit, creating a risk that the affected vehicle could ignite into flames even when not in use.
The models subject to the recall include:
· 2019–2022 BMW Z4
· 2019–2021 BMW 330i
· 2020–2022 BMW X3
· 2020–2022 BMW X4
· 2020–2022 BMW 530i
· 2021–2022 BMW 430i (standard and convertible)
· 2022 BMW 230i
· 2020–2022 Toyota Supra (manufactured by BMW)
Because parts are not yet available for all affected vehicles, BMW is conducting the recall in phases and sending interim notifications to owners, with follow-up notices to be issued as remedy parts become available. Until repairs can be completed, owners of the affected vehicles are instructed to park their cars outside and away from buildings.
